|July 17, 2002||vs 008 (Cup 1st round)||Lost by five wickets|
008 spells season over
Philip Barrass's 100th innings and Gary Boyd's last appearance were spoilt by another thrashing -- by a side who turned up late and only had around five regular members.
As it was a cup game, we could have claimed the fixture, but eager for battle we ploughed on regardless -- only to come unstuck as our wickets fell and our bowlers failed to bite.
Boyd marked his farewell innings before setting sail for New Zealand with a hard-fought 25.
But our other batsmen made little impact, with Thornhill, Rooney, Wardle and Sultanti each going for less than 10.
Set a modest target of 107, the former Martians set off at a sprint, aided by a wayward second Sultanti over, which featured more wides than regular deliveries.
Only veteran spinsmith Kit Wright ever looked dangerous, though Jim Thornhill had a double success, dismissing Madlyu on 38 with a lucky lbw and then clattering Bhola out for 1 with stumps flying.
But the damage had been done, and a mere 10.4 overs later the game had ended, the Fallopians were out of the cup and the season was over.
Old Fallopians 107 all out,
008 - 109-2
