Roses grow on fresh carpet In the last over seven runs stood between Rose & Crown and victory. But there was another hurdle for them to cross - Old Fallopians skipper Jonathan Stebbins. Six balls, one wicket, no runs. Victory went to an Old Fallopians side that kept its nerve and never gave up hope. This was our first game on the newly carpeted third wicket, with a newly mowed slow and wide outfield. Boundaries were rare and we struggled to reach 79, failing to use all our overs. Twin tyros: Stebbins and Barrass Rose & Crown appeared to be on target to overtake our total, but stumbled once the opening wickets fell and our bowling tightened Paul Hosking, in a rare appearence behind the stumps, proved an able keeper, letting little past. Majid Ali, making his Old Fallopians debut, was our top scorer and took two wickets, Special mention goes to John Shaw's miserly bowling figures - a mere 14 runs scored off four overs as the Rose & Crown batsmen swished and missed.
