May 11, 2005 | League vs Chats Palace | Won by 31 runs | |
Smash & grab at the PalaceA historic victory. Our highest winning score since 1999 (when we scored 169 v Chats Palace to win by 22 runs). Also notable for the debut of Joshua Frisby, who proved himself a lightning fast fielder. It was also a debut for David Sultanti -- for Chats Palace! In the end his controversial transfer proved to be a net bonus for us, especially when he helpfully kicked a Thornhill drive over the boundary.
The Chats bowling (in particular Sultanti's) was variable and, despite trapping Paul Hosking (1) and Peter Frisby (0), failed to penetrate. Philip Barrass and Thornhill both retired after reaching their 50s, and Tim Castle shook off the memory of two recent golden ducks to hit a fiery 23 batting with Barrass as his runner (painful thigh strain). Our bowling held sufficiently tight to keep the Chats run rate down. Chats openers skipper Gary Horsman and Laurence Hutchinson knocked up a decent total, but once they had gone the target grew overlarge. Peter Frisby bowled a textbook final over for the loss of just a couple of runs and the Old Fallopians celebrated their second league victory of the season.
