May 17, 2005 | League vs Pacific | Lost by 6 wickets | |
Very very poorThe Old Fallopians sank to a fresh low in this game. A selection mix-up meant we were missing class batsman Fawad Omer, but something else was lacking. ABILITY!!!! SENSE!!! CONFIDENCE!!! The rot set in once our other batting hope, Philip Barrass, ran himself out on 9 after chopping the ball straight to a fielder at backward square and calling for the run. Simon Hemelryk, at the other end, who had not backed up, saw the imminent disaster and sent Barrass back, but too late... After that it was a sorry procession to and from the crease as the Fallopians either snicked the ball to the keeper or missing it altogether.
Our final total was just 21, the lowest Fallopian score since 1999, and barely above the legendary lowest Fallopian score of all time, 17. Pacific kept their heads and took just over four overs to despatch the required runs, leaving a humiliated Fallopian side plenty of time to drown their shame at the Royal Inn. At least we've now touched bottom ... haven't we?
