Wet wet wet
The game opened in a shower and ended in a downpour. In between
it spat, drizzled and grew ever darker.
We weren't the only ones braving one of the wettest May evenings
on record - both the other games in the park also played on, but our
game lasted longer and petered out in storm conditions.
Vallance, who batted first, had relatively dry conditions, and
knocked up 140-6. By the time we were batting, the rain was ever
present before skipper Philip Barrass decided last man Jim Ward was
Too Wet Too Bat and conceded the game 72 runs short.
It was so wet the scorebook dissolved into a mush. The figures
below are a reconstruction from the sodden remains.
The Fallopians played one man short as the selector (Mr Barrass)
had chosen James Watt but omitted to tell him...
