Victory eludes 8-man bowling

Both sides started their bowling well, writes Tim Castle, both knocking over the opening bat with the first ball. Hosking had Sumon caught behind brilliantly by keeper Thornhill, while Thornhill returned the favour at the start of the Fallopian innings when he was clean bowled by ... Sumon.

Stand-in skipper Tim Castle employed a full rotational bowling system, using all eight players with Barrass sharing the keeping with Thornhill. This method worked well till we examined Vallance's final score - 162 - slightly more than we'd hope for.

Vallance's bowling proved more robust, with only Barrass (45 not out), Omer (19) and Dummett (15) showing much resistance. We played through the overs only to find ourselves 55 runs short.
