Dark clouds above: Old Fallopians at the crease

Played at Greenwich Park
Report by Steve Hamilton (captain)
I lost the toss and Cincinnati elected to bat.
They got a
competitive score of 180.
We used 9 bowlers.
Israr opened the bowling with control and precision and they
definitely were unfortunate not to take a wicket, with many balls
going past the outside edge.
Sohaib managed the first
breakthrough with a slower-ball bouncer that came out all wrong that
bounced a few times before eventually reaching the batsman who was
through his stroke and hit it straight to mid-wicket: Sufiyan Data
had no problem taking the catch.
Matt Ng-Wai admittedly
didn't have his best day with the ball, but he did managed to
produce a superb yorker that had the batsman trapped plumb in front
of his middle stump.
Then John Shaw came on with his box of
tricks and had the batsman swinging widely outside the off stump
without much success - and then Ali skyed one that took an eternity
to come down! Farhad Waqar ran in from mid-off and took a
magnificent catch from behind the umpire.
Then the Shaw/Waqar
combination paid off once again, when Asim hit the ball hard and low
straight to short extra cover where specialist all-round fielder
Waqar was there to take another superb catch.
to turn in our favour when Waqar clean bowled Ehsan for 59.
managed to take a few wickets with the help of Saleem, Ng-Wai and
Data all taking close in catches.
Also there was excellent
keeping from Ammar.
After a delicious tea of Chicken biryani,
samosas, cakes and watermelon, Sufitan Data and Ammar Malji set the
platform with a 2nd-wicket partnership of 103. They both batted with
composure and confidence and took our score to 130 for 2 until Ammar
got caught and was unfortunate not to get his 50.
started to turn to the worse when Abhishek Galoda attempted a
on-drive that took a inside edge on to his stumps; then Jagadeshwara
Vegi was next out getting caught behind the keeper, Sohaib Saleem
tried to hit across the line and was clean bowled, and Matt Ng-Wai
was a victim of the pitch with the ball keeping low and was out LBW.
We were at 172 for 6 with 5 overs left and 9 runs needed.
Star batsman Sufiyan Data, on 64, smashed the ball straight to
the long-leg fielder who didn't have to move to took a match
changing catch. Then Azaz Kahlil was caught next, Israr Kahlil and
John Shaw were both bowled and that was that ... GAME OVER!
An amazing game which took many twists and turns and was filled with
emotions running high and low.
Cricket was the real winner at
the end of the day - although we lost!!!!
