The omens were always against us for this fixture!

We lost the toss, we lost two players on the morning of the game and then we lost two quick wickets. At 0 for 2 things didn't look rosy!

But then Azaz Kahlil and Farhad Waqar steadied the ship with a partnership of 63 for the 3rd wicket.

Farhad, our top scorer last season with a 65 average, fell on 32 after smashing the ball straight to long on Vaz who took a brilliant catch!

Vinay Venkateshan and Azaz kept up the pace by puting on a 50 run partnership for the 4th wicket. We were beginning to show some bulldog spirit. We reached 170-8 which was slightly below par, but a great effort considering losing early wickets and only having nine players.

Freshly ordered pizzas were on the menu for tea which went down extremely well!

Azaz and Naveen opened up the bowling. Azaz should have had a wicket off his first over, an outside edge which surprisingly didn't stick in the hands of our normally reliable keeper. Naveen Kumar was our best bowler with figures of 7-0-42-3.

Vinay was our top player on the day. He bowled with a lot of variation and a mixture of slower balls, yorkers, with the odd beamer! He also managed a magnificent run out coming in from extra cover, collecting the ball single handedly and immediately releasing the ball to connect with the stumps effortlessly! Something I had previously been teaching him, believe it or not?

With a small target to defend it wasn't going to be easy as their opening batsman Vaz, who ended the day 78 not out, got them home with four wickets to spare.

Overall it was always going to be an uphill battle! But a spirited resistance!
