Played at Dame Alice Owen's Open Space, Whetstone
Report by Hassan Khan
This fixture was played at the 'chocolate box' Whittington ground
and was our first timed game since
last one in May 2013.
Captain Steve Hamilton won the
toss and elected to bowl. Overcast conditions and and a strong
east-west gale created difficult bowling conditions, particularly
from the up-slope pavilion end.
Whittington's batsmen made a
solid start, despite hostile spells from Najeeb and Khan. Saleem
made the breathrough eventually but sensible batting took
Whittington to a competitive score.
Skipper Hamilton took a
key wicket and young Ebrahim Khan narrowly missed out on a
hat-trick, ending on 2-14 and, for the second consecutive match, was
our most effective bowler.
Chasing 223 for victory,
Fallopian openers Turner and Dubey made a solid but slow start. A
wonderfully aggressive innings of 43 from Gary brought us within
The loss of Dubey for a stoic 64 was a
cue for a cluster of wickets and it was left for Khan and Najeeb to
bat out the final 10 overs for a well deserved draw.
