Nasty break spoils victory
Sunday's game was played at Old Wimbledonians
ground, writes David Sultanti. Their facilities were good, included a subsidised bar and their approach friendly and welcoming. Certainly a team to have an annual fixtures against and possible an return match later in the year.
The match was close, but we did managed a win, a team performance marshalled by John Rooney.
Unfortunately it will be remembered for other reasons, Jonathan Fawkner broke both Tibia and Fibula bones in his left leg. Both breaks were clean, (I've seen the x-ray), and
had to be operated on for the leg to be pinned..
The accident occurred while he was fielding for the opposition, an Old Wimbledonian player fell on top of him. At the hospital, although in pain, he was also in good humour. When the SHO asked him his position when the chap fell on to him, he replied. "Mid off".
