July 26, 2004 League vs Reuters Lost by 10 runs

Full scorecard | averages | back to fixtures

Victory denied

A very winnable game which we lost by just 10 runs.

If only Philip Barrass had bowled the final over a little tighter (one wicket, but for 19 runs)..

If only Jim Thornhill hadn't walked on 21 (he thought he had snicked it to the keeper)...

If only Philip Barrass (him again!) had connected with the second ball he faced, instead of letting it mow down his stumps...

... we would probably have won.

Even with all those misfortunes, we came very close to reaching our 153 target.

Fawad Omer scored an unbeaten 50, while Simon Hemelryk and Dave Burt between them contributed another 42.

But missing the scoring pace of a Barrass or a Thornhill, our lower order batsmen struggled to keep up with the run rate and couldn't reach the finishing post.
